06/30/09 - Monterey County Selects Cumming for as-needed Construction Estimating Services

Monterey County, California has selected Cumming for as needed Construction Estimating Services. Cumming, along with three other firms, will be contracted under a master services agreement for the work.

05/21/09 - LA Southwest College Celebrates the Opening of its New LEED Silver Student Services Facility

As College Project Manager for the reconstruction of LACCD's LA Southwest Campus, Cumming proudly delivered another successful facility to LACCD and the residents of South Central Los Angeles. The new $16 million, 64,437 sq. ft. Student Services building earned a LEED Silver rating by the U.S. Green Building Council for its compliance with sustainability standards.

02/13/09 - Cumming Delivers the New Quechan Casino on Budget and Ahead of Schedule

More than nine years in the making, the new 297,000 sq. ft., $210 million Quechan Casino and Resort opened for business today, 119 days ahead of schedule. Cumming served as Project Manager throughout all phases of development, including planning, design, construction and closeout.

10/12/09 - Cumming’s Hilton and Disney Projects Featured in Hotel Online

Hotel Online today reported the status of three marquis projects for which Cumming has provided a host of professional cost and project management services. Disney’s $800 million Ko Olina Resort, currently under construction, is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2011. Cumming is currently delivering both cost and project management services on the project. In Orlando, Hilton recently opened its new Bonnet Creek and Waldorf Astoria hotels. Cumming served as cost manager on both projects.

10/9/09 - Pasadena Convention Center Wins Best of Southern California Award by McGraw-Hill/California Construction

McGraw Hill/California Construction has selected the Pasadena Convention Center Expansion project for its “2009 Best of Southern California” award under its Government/Public Project category. Cumming, as a member of Fentress Architects’ team, provided value engineering and cost management for this $69 million project involving exhibit and ballroom space as well as a parking structure.

09/17/09 - Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District Selects Cumming for New Replacement Hospital

Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District has engaged Cumming to provide cost estimating services for the construction of a new 67,000 sq. ft. replacement “critical access hospital” in Tehachapi, CA. The new hospital will be a ground-up replacement facility, which will add needed medical services that are not currently offered at the present hospital. Construction completion is slated for December 2012.

9/2/09 - The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Selects Cumming for On-Call CM Services

Cumming has been selected by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community to provide On-Call CM Services for horizontal work anticipated by the Tribe over the next several years. The Community is presently undergoing significant capital improvements to meet demands from expansion and renovation of the tribal government complex, educational facilities, police and fire department facilities, casinos, and current and proposed commercial development. Anticipated work under the program includes schools, health facilities, a wellness center, central plant, public service facilities, roadway resurfacing, road and utility construction and rehabilitation, water service lines, sewer lines, subdivision infrastructure, development infrastructure, and housing projects.

01/29/10 - Westgate’s New 52-story Planet Hollywood Tower Project Opens on Las Vegas Strip

Westgate Resorts President and CEO David Siegel was joined by hundreds of guests — including Mayor Oscar Goodman, Planet Hollywood Worldwide Resorts President Bill Feather, 2009 Miss America Katie Stam, and all 53 2010 Miss America Pageant contestants — in celebrating the official opening of Phase I of the Planet Hollywood Towers project in Las Vegas. As an extension to Westgate’s on-site facilities team, Cumming played a significant role in bringing this 52-story glass tower to a successful completion. The facility includes 28 penthouses and more than 1,200 suites.

11/19/09 - Cumming to Assist Los Rios Community College District with Design-Build Criteria Development

Cumming has been awarded a Design-Build Criteria Development contract by the Los Rios Community College District. The firm will be assisting the District with the preparation and development of their Design-Build Prequalification and Request for Proposal processes on a new instructional building for the District’s Cosumnes River College Campus. The proposed 24,000 sq. ft. building will be located near the entrance off of Bruceville Road and will house the architectural and construction programs for the District. The District is embarking on its first major Design-Build project and has selected Cumming, a proven leader in Design-Build, to support the effort.

02/26/10 - Governor Schwarzenegger Invites Cumming’s Randy Britt to Deliver Update on LAUSD’s Solar Initiatives

In an effort to promote the use of solar power in California, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed into law bill AB 510, which raises the maximum level of net metering in the state from 2.5% to 5%. During Governor Schwarzenegger’s public announcement of the bill’s passage, Cumming’s own Randy Britt, currently serving as the Director of Sustainability on LAUSD’s multi-billion dollar school improvement program, was asked to share some of the District’s solar initiatives under their comprehensive sustainability program. 03/23/10 - Cumming’s Los Angles Southwest College Project Receives CMAA Project Achievement Award

The Construction Management Association of America–Southern California Chapter has recognized Cumming’s Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) Project Management team for the 2010 Project Achievement Award in the Program Category for their work on the LASC Design-Build Bundled Project. This project was the first major Design– Build project implemented for the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Bond Program as a pilot project, and in 2009, Larry Eisenberg, LACCD Executive Director, credited the District’s success with this program, “as the impetus to the State Legislature to change state law…to allow all community college districts in California to use the Design-Build method…on a permanent basis.”

07/30/10 - AIA California Council Receives Economic Update from Cumming’s Bill Rodgers

Cumming’s Bill Rodgers yesterday was on hand to deliver an update on California’s construction climate at the AIA California Council’s monthly chapter executives meeting in Burbank, CA. The presentation covered economic trends in the national construction market, provided an interpretation of those trends and how they relate to California’s architectural community, and offered projections for 2010 to 2014. Additionally, techniques to help avoid the pitfalls of a volatile market were discussed.
